COVID-19 Update

March 18, 2020

COVID-19 Update #2 for Tuesday, March 17:

Mayor Peter Busse and the District's CAO were on a province-wide call late this afternoon with BC's Minister of Health, Adrian Dix, and provincial health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, to learn more about the measures announce this afternoon and to advocate on behalf of the community to take our concerns into account when developing future response plans.

One of the key measures being taken is to hold daily conference calls led by Emergency Management BC to ensure all levels of government across the entire province are coordinating their risk assessments and responses. There are a number of new measures now in effect, and many more that are being developed and will be announced over the coming days. The District will share these with the community as they are announced.

Note that at this time, the Province is not recommending that all recreation facilities be closed to the public, but rather that they be assessed on a case-by-case basis in the context of the local situation and the demographic of the user groups, with all recommended mitigation measures being taken to maintain the healthiest possible facilities. The District will continue to work with Interior Health and continually re-assess our facility and recreational programs to ensure the highest level of health and safety for users.
